Direct answer

How is ADHD medication monitored?

Once ADHD medication is stable, NICE NG87 recommends at least an annual review by a healthcare professional with ADHD expertise, and regular checks of blood pressure, pulse, weight (and height in children), side effects, and whether medication is still needed and effective.

  • Six-monthly specialist review
  • Regular physical health checks
  • Side effects and benefit reviewed
  • £99 per 6 months

What is checked

  • Symptom benefit and daily functioning
  • Blood pressure and pulse
  • Weight (and height in children)
  • Sleep, appetite and mood
  • Any misuse or diversion concerns
  • Whether to continue, adjust or trial a break

How often

Physical health checks are typically every six months or after dose changes, with a full review at least annually.
